This year the Harpenden Lions chosen charities are Arthritis Care, Carers in Hertfordshire and the Lions Life Skills Programme in local schools.<\/p>\n
RRP Associates , which has offices in Herts, Beds and Bucks, has a truly original fundraising idea that is always a huge hit with visitors to the Highland Gathering and other events. In keeping with a fine country tradition, visitors to this hugely popular family event will have the chance to soak one of the company\u2019s hapless solicitors as they allow themselves to be imprisoned in the stocks for public humiliation \u2013 and revenge! All in the name of charity.<\/p>\n
Rodolfo R.<\/strong>, Managing Partner at RRP Associates says, \u201dWe have been at the Highland Gathering in previous years and visitors really got into the spirit of soaking one of us, or kids especially liked to soak dad, mum or their brother. We came up with the idea of stocks because we thought people would enjoy wreaking revenge on lawyers and giving to such worthwhile charities at the same time. We found the stocks on eBay of all places and they are made of solid oak so may be originals.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will also have a free draw on our stand, giving visitors the opportunity to win \u00a350 of Marks & Spencer vouchers. This is hugely popular too and we always give children something to take away with them. All of the money that we raise will support the Harpenden Lions charities. We hope that there\u2019ll be lots of people who\u2019ll want to soak us and enjoy getting a bit of revenge.\u201d<\/p>\n What makes the Harpenden Highland Gathering such a special occasion? Every year there are plenty of events for children, including novelty track events, a climbing wall and a funfair. There is a wide selection of stalls offering refreshments, and many others selling craft and novelty items. Many charities set up stalls and displays to raise awareness of their work and attract donations.<\/p>\n The Highland Gathering will be held on Sunday 13th July 2014 in Rothamsted Park, Harpenden AL5 2HU, and will run from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
